Course Introduction

This course is the recognised qualification for those who want to work in the health and social care sector as care workers in nursing homes, residential or domiciliary care settings. You may already be employed in the care sector and need to achieve this qualification as part of your employment contract. This programme develops the the knowledge built at Level 2 and is ideal for those wishing to progress in the care sector and those who have a supervisory position e.g. senior carer, team leader etc.

The programme reflects upon your working role and supports the underpinning knowledge to develop a portfolio of evidence to gain full certification.

Students can take up to 2 years to complete this qualification, however it can be completed sooner (depending upon commitment and evidence available).

Course Aim

The aim of the course is to develop students knowledge and skills against the national standards to be awarded the full NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Course Content

To achieve a full level 3 Diploma students must complete 58 credits. To do this candidates must achieve the following mandatory units:

  • Promote communication in health and social care
  • Engage in personal development in health and social care
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health and social care
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health and social care
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote person centred approaches in health and social care
  • Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings
  • Awareness of sensory loss
  • Candidates must choose a further 30 credits from a choice of approximately 80 units


Assessment

The course is assessed is a variety of methods including observations, written, witness statements, questions etc and all form a final portfolio of evidence.
