Advanced First Aid Qualification
| Course Aim |
The aim of this course is to provide students with advanced training in medical & trauma skills.
Suitable for: Police Officers, Fire-Fighters, Private Ambulance Staff, Medical Response Teams, First Aiders who wish to extend their skills, Expedition Medics, Close Protection Officers, Nurses etc

| Objectives |
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- State the role of the First Person on Scene (EMT)
- Define Scene Safety Management (Safety & Triage)
- Explain and demonstrate principles of infection control
- Summarise Post Incident Procedures
- Demonstrate a Patient Assessment (including Primary & Secondary Survey)
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication with patients and colleagues
- Recognise respiratory problems in a patient
- Compare and discuss breathing difficulties
- List causes of obstructed airway
- Demonstrate basic and advanced airway management skills
- Perform Basic Life Support Skills
- Perform Paediatric Basic Life Support
- Demonstrate the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on a casualty who is not breathing
- Identify Normal/Abnormal heart rhythms
- Discuss & Demonstrate varies dressings for different types of wounds
- Demonstrate treatment for a casualty in shock
- Discuss & Demonstrate recognition & treatment of casualty’s with a variety of medical conditions e.g. Heart conditions, Asthma etc.
- Demonstrate skills and Identify equipment necessary to assist the Paramedic
- Identify recognition features of trauma injuries and demonstrate appropriate treatment
- State the importance of Spinal Immobilisation
- Demonstrate Spinal Management Skills
- Define the effects of a Chest Injury
- Demonstrate the treatment of Chest Injury
- Define the effects of Ballistic Trauma
- Demonstrate the treatment for various wounds caused by Ballistic Trauma
- Demonstrate the administration of Medical Gases
- Demonstrate Patient Monitoring Skills e.g. Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximetry etc
- Demonstrate appropriate treatment to Injuries to the Head & Abdominal
- Demonstrate Road Traffic Collation Management

| The Role of the EMT, Code of Conduct, Minimising Infection, Post Incident Procedures, Triage, Scene Management, Patient Communication, Patient Examination & Assessment, Primary & Secondary Survey, Airway Management (OP, NP & LMA, Suction, Bag Value Mask) Use of Medical Gases (Oxygen & Entonox), Basic Life Support (Choking, CPR, Unconsciousness), Paediatric Basic Life Support, Use of an AED, Road Traffic Collision Management, Haemorrhage Management, Shock Management, Ballistic Injury Management, Chest Injury Management, Medical Injuries (Heart Conditions, Diabetes, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma, Anaphylaxis), Use of Epi Pen, Assisting the Paramedic, Trauma Injury Management (Injuries to Muscles, Bones & Joints, Burns/Scalds, Spinal Injury), Spinal Management Skills e.g. KED, Rescue Board,) Blood Glucose Monitoring, Recording & Reporting. |
