HSE First Aid at Work (FAW)
Course Introduction
This 3 Day course is designed to qualify students to become HSE Approved First Aider's in the Workplace. The training is designed to accommodate workplace requirements and includes a comprehensive syllabus for high risk workplace environments. This new qualification replaces the old "4 Day First Aid at Work Course" and the syllabus and time scales have been updated to reflect the Health & Safety Executives requirements.

Course Aim
The Aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to administer First Aid in the Workplace and receive a nationally recognised and approved qualification by the Health & Safety Executive to undertake the role of First Aider.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the role of the First Aider
- State the causes of unconsciousness
- Discuss and demonstrate the importance of hygiene
- Demonstrate an effective patient assessment
- Perform the recovery position on an unconscious casualty
- Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a casualty who is not breathing
- Demonstrate effective application of bandages and dressings to control wounds and bleeding
- State the procedures for dealing with a casualty who is having a seizure
- State the procedures for dealing with a casualty who is suffering from shock
- Perform Choking procedures
- Discuss first aid for minor injuries
- Examine and discuss the treatment for soft tissue injuries
- Examine and discuss the treatment for injuries to bones including suspected spinal injury's
- Examine and discuss the treatment for chest injuries
- Examine and discuss the treatment for burns & scalds
- Examine and discuss the treatment for poisoning
- Examine and discuss the treatment eye injuries
- Examine and discuss the treatment for anaphylactic shock

Assessment
The course is assessed by a continuous assessment of the students progress throughout the course and performing the required skills of CPR, Bleeding Management, Choking & Unconsciousness to independent assessors.
