HSE First Aid at Work Refresher (FAWR)

Course Introduction

This 2 Day course is designed to re qualify students as HSE Approved First Aiders in the Workplace. The training is designed to accommodate workplace requirements and includes a comprehensive syllabus for high risk workplace environments. This new qualification has been updated to reflect the new Health & Safety Executive requirements.

Course Aim

The Aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to administer First Aid in the Workplace and receive a nationally recognised and approved qualification by the Health & Safety Executive to undertake the role of First Aider.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Explain the role of the First Aider
  
• State the causes of unconsciousness
  
• Discuss and demonstrate the importance of hygiene
  
• Demonstrate an effective patient assessment
  
• Perform the recovery position on an unconscious casualty
  
• Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a casualty who is not breathing
  
• Demonstrate effective application of bandages and dressings to control wounds and bleeding
  
• State the procedures for dealing with a casualty who is having a seizure
  
• State the procedures for dealing with a casualty who is suffering from shock
  
• Perform Choking procedures
  
• Discuss first aid for minor injuries
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for soft tissue injuries
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for injuries to bones including suspected spinal injury's
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for chest injuries
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for burns & scalds
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for poisoning
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment eye injuries
  
• Examine and discuss the treatment for anaphylactic shock
