Course Introduction
The 1 Day IOSH Directing Safely course provides directors/owners of small and medium sized enterprises with an understanding of the moral, legal and business case for proactive health and safety management and give guidance on effective risk management in the workplace.

Course Aim
The aim of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to Direct Health & Safety in the workplace and to receive the IOSH Directing Safely qualification.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- State the importance of strategic health and safety management and its interaction with other business systems.
- Define directors’ and employers’ statutory duties.
- Identify accident causes and plan for prevention through hazard identification, risk assessment and control strategies.
- Examine and discuss the consequences of failing to manage health and safety effectively.
- Examine and discuss the importance of employee selection and the effect of human factors on health and safety.
- Recognise the importance of consultation and communication with employees on health and safety issues.
- Examine and discuss the significance of performance monitoring for continual improvement of health and safety management.

Assessment
