Course Introduction

This extensive 5 day course covers medical and trauma skills specially designed for Armed Police Officers, Tactical Firearm Officers & Police Close Protection teams. It is accredited by City & Guilds and is designed to accommodate the guidelines set by the Faculty of Pre Hospital Care at the Royal College of Surgeons and fully compliant with the NPIA level 4 & 5 modules. The key to this course is our instructors can accommodate your service tactical requirements and considerations within the delivery, making it a unique learning experience.

Course Aim

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to manage medical and trauma incidents in the pre hospital environment.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • State the role of the First Person on Scene (EMT)
  • Define Scene Safety Management (Safety & Triage)
  • Explain & demonstrate principles of infection control
  • Summarise post incident procedures
  • Demonstrate a patient assessment (Including primary & secondary survey)
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication with patients and colleagues
  • Recognise respiratory problems in a patient
  • Compare & breathing difficulties
  • List causes of an obstructed airway
  • Demonstrate basic & advanced airway management skills
  • Perform basic life support skills
  • Perform pediatric life support skills
  • Demonstrate the use of an automated external defibrillator
  • Identify Normal/Abnormal heart rhythms
  • Discuss & demonstrate various dressings for different types of wounds
  • Demonstrate treatment for a casualty suffering from shock
  • Discuss & demonstrate recognition & treatment of casualty's with a variety of medical conditions e.g. Heart, Asthma etc
  • Identify equipment necessary to assist the Paramedic
  • Identify recognition features of trauma injuries and demonstrate appropriate treatment
  • State the importance of spinal immobilisation
  • Demonstrate spinal management skills
  • Define the effects of a chest injury
  • Demonstrate treatment of a chest injury
  • Define the effects of ballistic trauma
  • Demonstrate the treatment for various wounds caused by ballistic trauma
  • Demonstrate the administration of medical gases
  • Demonstrate patient monitoring skills e.g. blood pressure, pulse oximetry
  • Demonstrate appropriate treatment to injuries to the head & Abdominal
  • Demonstrate road traffic collision management skills
