City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)
Course Introduction
The DTLLS qualification is for those who wish to become fully qualified teachers. On completion of this qualification, students can progress to achieve Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) status by completion of a portfolio which forms the basis for professional formation for teachers through the Institute for Learning. This qualification is the equivalent of the Post Graduate Certificate in Education/ Certificate in Education and on completion gives students the status to teach in further education, higher education, private training, in house etc.
The course develops all the skills you need to work as a full teacher in the lifelong learning sector - designing your own curricula and teaching a range of levels, subjects and learner types.
In order to be eligible to attend the course, the candidate must be in possession of a Level 4 CTLLS qualification.

- The Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector could help you progress in a role as a: full teacher in further, adult and community education, for example, as a further education lecturer full teacher in work-based learning - full teacher in the voluntary sector.
- This Diploma qualifies you for Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. To gain full QTLS status, the next step after taking this qualification is to go through the process of professional formation with the Institute for Learning (IfL).
- Once you've achieved QTLS status, you can meet your continuing professional development (CPD) requirement through an Award in Developing Embedded Approaches to Literacy, Language and Numeracy. If you decide you would like to specialise in teaching Mathematics or English after taking the DTLLS qualification, you could progress on to an Additional Diploma:
- Additional Diploma in Teaching Mathematics (Numeracy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
- Additional Diploma in Teaching English (Literacy) in the Lifelong Learning Sector
- Additional Diploma in Teaching English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

Assessment
You will demonstrate what you've learned through both practical skills assessments and assignments that cover the theory of teaching. These assessments include practical skills demonstrations and written examinations. In addition, you will keep a Teaching Practice Portfolio and a Reflective Learning Journal. You will also complete 150 practice teaching hours.
