HABC Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Course Introduction
This 4 day course is a professional teaching qualification. It is designed for those who are training, teaching, tutoring and assessing or those who wish enter the teaching profession.
The PTLLS qualification conforms to the new teaching standards by Lifelong Learning UK and is the starting platform for those who wish to progress and obtain full teacher status.
On completion, it allows candidates to teach in colleges, private training providers and in house for any subject that they have experience in.
If you are a trainer involved in providing funded Work Based Learning (WBL), you may also be required to obtain PTLLS in order to satisfy funding requirements.

Course Aim
The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to teach and obtain the HABC Level 3/4 PTLLS qualification.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- State your own role and responsibilities and the boundaries of your role in relation to teaching.
- Demonstrate appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area.
- Demonstrate session planning skills.
- Demonstrate how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners.
- State how to use different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

Assessment
During the qualification learners will produce a portfolio of evidence that will meet the learning outcomes from the five sections listed above. This will consist of 5 theory assessments and 1 practical assessment. The practical assessment consists of one 30 minute micro-teach session delivered as part of the programme, where both tutor and peer feedback will be given.
